Completion tracking

Completion tracking

Why use it?

Completion tracking can help students to manage their work better and teaching staff to get better insight into students' progress.

Step 1: Turn Completion tracking on

Completion tracking is enabled by default if the course was set up after 14th June 2019. If it was set up earlier, go to the Administration block and click on Edit settings.

In there, scroll down and find Completion tracking and change it to Yes.

Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Save and display.

Step 2: Edit completion settings

Editing individual activities

Turn Edit mode on and click on the three dots icon next to the activity and select Edit settings. Expand Completion conditions.

You can choose three settings:

  • None: If this option is selected, the particular activity will be excluded from completion tracking.

  • Manual: If you select “Students must manually mark the activity as done”, students will see a circle next to the activity that can be ticked indicating that the activity has been completed.

  • Requirements-based

You can also set a reminder for students to work on this activity. It will show on the Timeline block of their Dashboard.

Requirements-based completion tracking

Different requirements can be set depending on the activity type. Some of the most common ones include:

  • View the activity: The activity will be considered completed once the student has clicked on the activity.

  • Require a grade: The activity will only be marked as completed once a student achieves any grade, whether it’s a fail or pass.

  • Receive a passing grade: Student must achieve the pass grade as specified in the activity settings for it to be completed.

Once you have set the conditions, click Save and return to the course.
