Submit video to Moodle Assignments using the Echo360 plugin

Why use it?

Because of their large file size, it’s not possible to upload video directly to Moodle. However, if an assignment has been set up to allow you to do so, you can submit video using the Echo360 plugin in Moodle.

How to submit a video using the Echo360 plugin

  1. Click on the assignment activity.

  2. Click Add submission.

3. If you are required to submit a document file (for example a coversheet), do so in the File submissions area.

4. In the Online text area, click on the Echo360 icon.

5. In the Echo360 window that pops up, select Upload Existing Media.

6. Click on Upload Media from….

7. Select the content you wish to upload. Ideally, your video should be saved as an .MP4 file, though Echo360 accepts a range of file types

  1. The icons on the left allow you to log into cloud storage spaces to retrieve a file to upload

  2. To upload directly from your PC, click in the middle of the greyed area or drag your file into this area.

Note: Although .pdf, .ppt and .pptx are listed as acceptable file types, they cannot be shared to Moodle. If you need to share a presentation, you should first save it as an .mp4. Microsoft’s Turn your presentation into a video guide details how to do this. Mac users should consult Microsoft’s Save a presentation as a movie file or MP4 guide.

8. Once you have selected the file you wish to upload, click Upload in the bottom right corner.

9. Wait for the File to Upload. When you see that the file has successfully uploaded, click Close.

10. You will now see the recording in the Library tab. Click on the recording so you can see a green tick next to it. Once you see the green tick, click Next.

11. Click Insert.

12. Text with the recording details should appear in the Online Text area. Click Save Changes.

13. You should now see the video embedded in the Online text area of the submission form. If you see a message that the video is still processing, that is fine. The video will continue to process in Echo360 after you have submitted.

Note: If the assignment has been set up in such a way, you may be required to click Submit assignment before your submission is finalised. Once you do so, you will no longer be able to edit your submission.
