Choice
Why use it?
Create a set of choices for students to select from. Choices are a single-question questionnaire useful to survey students, quick polls or as sign-up sheets.
Students can choose one or more options and, if enabled, update their choices. You can also choose whether students will be able to view other students' choices and whether or not to allow them to see other students' names or only show the percentage of votes.
Step 1: Add a Choice
Go to the course page and Turn editing on. Scroll to the section where you want your Choice to be displayed, click Add an activity or resource and pick Choice.
Step 2: Settings
Tip: Click on the question mark icon next to any setting to display extra help or click on Moodle Docs for this page link at the bottom of each page in Moodle for accessing context-specific documentation.
General
Give your ‘Choice’ activity a Name and in the Description field, provide instructions including the question the participants will be making a choice about.
If you have only a few choices, set the Display mode for options to Horizontally or if you have a large list of options, choose to display them Vertically.
Options
Allow choice to be updated
If set to Yes, it allows students to change their choice after submitting their initial response.
Allow more than one choice to be selected
Allows students to select multiple options.
Limit the number of responses allowed
Limits the number of participants that can select each choice option. When the limit is reached, no one else will be able to select that option.
Option
Enter in each Option field the text for each choice. To add additional choice options, click the Add 3 field(s) to form button below the listed options.
Results
Choose how to display results to participants.
To anonymise student choices when publishing results, from the Privacy of results drop-down menu, select Publish anonymous results, do not show student names. Only the percentage of votes will be displayed.
Â
Click Save and display.
Step 3: View responses
Click on the Choice activity on the course page and from the Administration block, click View (n) responses.
Responses can be filtered, deleted (from the With selected drop-down) or exported (clicking on one of the Download options buttons). There is also the option to ‘Select all’ responses if required.
