Making video content for teaching

This guide aims to support staff in the production of video content for teaching purposes. It covers a number of different uses for video content and provides practical guidance appropriate to each of those uses. Please select a use from the list below to access the appropriate guidance:

• Pre-recorded lecture content (either voice + slides or video + voice + slides)

• Pre-recorded lecture content that brings together multiple sources (bespoke recordings combined with personal historical recordings or previous public events)

• Course or Class introduction videos (possibly informal and/or addressing cohort specific considerations)

• Group Feedback (cohort specific)

• Simple Demonstrations (e.g. guided walkthrough for navigating an online resource)

• Including guest speakers alongside main course lecturer

• Producing content that requires switching between different recording set-ups or modes of speech (e.g. between addressing the viewer directly and narrating a demonstration or annotated example)

• More narrative film, that combines desk/office-based recordings with external/location recordings. 

• Recommended Additional Hardware for Recording/Streaming Audio-Video on a PC or Laptop.
