Using the PowerPoint Add-in
This guide will walk you through the steps to seamlessly integrate Mentimeter into your PowerPoint presentations. By following these instructions, you’ll be able to enhance your slides with interactive live polls and real-time audience engagement.
Note: Mentimeter has replaced its original add-in with a streamlined version. While Menti slides in PowerPoint are more stable, all creation and editing must occur directly in Mentimeter, and can no longer be done directly within PowerPoint.
Table of Contents
1. Inserting the Mentimeter Add-in
To integrate Mentimeter into your PowerPoint presentation within the Desktop version, navigate to the slide where you want to add the Mentimeter content.
Click on the ‘Home’ tab and then from ‘Add-ins’ (located in the far right side of the menu) you can select the Mentimeter add-in .
The Mentimeter add-in will then appear on your slide as an interactive image which can be moved and adjusted in size.
You will have to login to mentimeter USING SSO (at the bottom of the login part of the Mentimeter window).
Please be aware that the Mentimeter Add-in for PowerPoint will only work when using the desktop version, NOT in PowerPoint Online (web version). For further information you can refer to the minimum specifications for running the PowerPoint Add-in as outlined by Mentimeter themselves.
2. Logging into Mentimeter from the Add-in
To login to your Mentimeter account from within the PowerPoint Add-In, click on ‘Log in with SSO’.
This will prompt you to select ‘Log in’ and be redirected to Mentimeter in the web-browser where you will login and a verification code will be shared with you to input into the PowerPoint Add-In.
You will need to ensure that you are logged into the Mentimeter Add-in for PowerPoint through Single-Sign On (SSO) ahead of each teaching session. This is particularly important to keep in mind when using the on-campus PCs.
3. Adding Mentimeter content to your PowerPoint presentation
First you will have created all the slides you want to use in Mentimeter itself. If anything needs to be edited before you use these slides, you have to do it in Mentimeter. The slides will ‘update’ in the ppt when that is done.
Select the existing Mentimeter presentation you wish to link and then click ‘Add’ to insert the question into your PowerPoint Presentation.
You CAN add different menti presentations to one PowerPoint BUT: each Menti that you import is tied to a unique access code. If you import more than one, you'll have to share multiple access codes in the same presentation (which is always shown on the top of the menti slide)
4. Presenting with the Mentimeter Add-in
To collect responses you must open PowerPoint in the ‘Slide Show’ view and click on ‘Start Menti’ to allow participants to begin submitting responses.
If you are presenting from various devices such as a teaching room computer then you will need to login to the Mentimeter Add-in each teaching session. To avoid this you could consider using the in-room laptop input to present from your own device which you would be logged in through already.
An interactive tool bar will appear in the bottom left-hand corner of the content slide. This offers the option to hide/show the joining instructions (QR code) and results. You also have the option to close the voting from here.
5. Managing and resetting results in the Mentimeter Add-in
To view or reset the results for a Mentimeter question in your PowerPoint presentation select ‘Content’ and ‘Manage results’ when in editing mode.
You will be presented with the option to either a.) View results or b.) Reset results. If you wish to reset the results you must chose to do so for either the individual slide that you are currently on or the entire presentation.
6. PowerPoint Add-in FAQ and Video Guide
There is a full FAQ available for using the PowerPoint Add-in which is hosted and maintained by Mentimeter themselves. You can access this through the link below as well as a PowerPoint Add-in video guide.
