1. Logging into Mentimeter

To create/access your Mentimeter account under the LSE license, you will always need to log-in with SSO (Single Sign-On).

You can log in via SSO automatically by heading to mentimeter.com/join/lse using your LSE credentials and following the prompts.

Otherwise, you can follow this manual process:

  1. Go to the Mentimeter homepage

  2. Click on the ‘Log in’ button in the upper right corner of the homepage

  3. At the bottom of the login page, click on ‘Log in with SSO’ (indicated below)

  4. Enter ‘lse’ as the company name and click on ‘Log in’

Once you have set up your account through LSE SSO, you should be automatically signed in. If you try to log in through the Mentimeter interface, it will remind you that your account is connected to SSO and prompt you to use this process.

If you have any issues with logging in through SSO, please contact tech.support@lse.ac.uk

2. Creating presentations and polls

From the Home screen, click the ‘New Menti’ button to create a new blank Menti. You can also click on the small arrow next to that button to specifically select a new quiz or survey style.

If selecting ‘New survey’ it is important to keep in mind that this will allow for participants to move through the slides in the presentation at their own pace instead of the the presenter controlling what slide will be shown to the audience on their voting devices. To learn more take a look at the ‘How to conduct a survey with Mentimeter’ guide.

You will be taken directly to the Edit view, where you can choose to begin from scratch, use a template, or import slides from an existing presentation:

3. Exploring the interactive question types

There are a number of interactive question types which are available for you to select from.

A few of the most commonly used interactive question types are:

  • Multiple Choice: participants will choose only from a few pre-defined options.

  • Word Clouds: participants input their thoughts and ideas to create a visual representation.

  • Open Ended: participants can type in free-text answers (up to 200 characters at a time).

  • Ranking: participants are provided with a list of items and rank them in a certain order.

  • Scales: participants submit numeric answers or rate statements.

However, there are a number of other question types in Mentimeter to consider how to engage your audience!

If you are using the Mentimeter Add-in for PowerPoint please note that only the core question types can be created/edited from within the Add-in.

4. Participating in polls or surveys

There are three different ways for your audience to connect to your Mentimeter presentation and start participating:

  • Join via the join code at menti.com

  • Join via a QR code

  • Join via a join link

Join via a join code

When you create your presentation, a temporary join code used for accessing the presentation appears at the top of the presentation:

The most common way for your audience to start participating is for them to go to www.menti.com on their device (usually a mobile phone, but it can also be a computer or tablet) and enter that code in the text field:

Another way to join is by connecting to the presentation via a QR code. Simply open the camera on your device and scan the QR code to join.

The presenter can share the QR code ahead of time, or display it live during the presentation.

Join via a join link

The last way to join is by connecting to the presentation via a link. When clicking on the link your audience will get direct access to participate in the presentation.
