Mark your Moodle Assignment Offline
The following guidance is not relevant to assignments with Accipio Grade enabled. For assignments with Accipio Grade enabled, see Marking Assignments with Accipio Grade or contact the Digital Education Team at eden.digital@lse.ac.uk.
To mark offline you will need to:
Download the relevant materials:
The Offline Grading Worksheet spreadsheet
The submissions
Alphabetically sort the materials
Mark on a spreadsheet
Upload the spreadsheet on Moodle
1. Download the materials
If your admin team provides you with the materials, skip to Prepare the materials.
Make sure the assignment has Offline Grading enabled.
Download grading worksheet
In the submissions page, click on Action above the submissions table.
Select Download grading worksheet.
If submissions are anonymous, only users with the Manager role will get a spreadsheet with student names and emails.
Download all submissions
In the submissions page, click on Action above the submissions table.
Select Download all submissions.
If you want to provide each student with a feedback file (Word, PDF), check the Download submissions in folders above the table.
Students are identified by the same participant number on both the grading worksheet and the submission folders and submission files.
2. Prepare the materials
Before you start marking:
Unzip the folder with the submissions. (See unzipping files on Windows or unzipping files on Mac)
To speed up your marking and avoid mistakes, sort alphabetically both:
the submissions or submission folders
the student identifiers in the Grading Worksheet.
3. Mark submissions
Make sure you have prepared the materials as above.
For each participant, enter:
A grade in the Grade column.
If applicable, a feedback comment in the Feedback comments column.
Don’t change the sheet’s columns: only edit the content in the cells.
Use the participant number to ensure data is entered into the correct record.
Save the .csv file.
Make sure you save the amended worksheet as a CSV file.
If you want to provide each student with a feedback file (Word, PDF), see Steps 5 to 7 in our guidance on Bulk upload of feedback files.
4. Upload marks on Moodle
In the submissions page, click on Action above the submissions table.
Select Upload grading worksheet.
Upload the csv grading worksheet.
Confirm the changes.
What students will see
