LSE Lecture Recording Policy Changes 2025/26
LSE has introduced a revised lecture recording policy following a review during the first half of 2025 that included consultation with both staff and students. Key changes to the policy are outlined below, but for further details please refer to the Lecture Recording policy FAQ for staff and the full lecture recording policy document.
Opting out
Change | Previous policy |
|---|---|
Allow lecturers to opt-out when suitable alternative arrangements for students with My Adjustments can be agreed with the student and DMHS | Previously lecturers could not opt-out when students with My Adjustments were registered for their courses |
Recording will continue while agreement is reached as described above | While the previous policy did not allow opt-out as described above, there was no provision for the continuance of recording while questions regarding opting out were resolved |
Lecturer must inform Deputy Head of Department (DHoD) and provide reasons for opting out | Previously there was no requirement to inform department or provide reasons for opt-out |
Recording Availability
Change | Previous policy |
|---|---|
Students with My Adjustments shall retain access to recordings until at least the end of the academic year that the recording was made. | Previous policy stated that recordings must be made available within 48 hours for students with MAs (which remains in the current policy) but it did not say how long they should remain available for |
Recommend that recordings remain available to all students until the end of the academic year of recording | No statement regarding availability was included in the previous policy |
Course convenors shall inform students of course opt-out policy and the availability of recordings via Moodle by the course start date; including if arrangements change during the course | Previously the policy did not require course convenors to inform students regarding the availability of recordings |
